Thanks to the specific support of the Communitas Foundation, the Reverse Horseshoe student theatre group was able to continue its work and achieve its goals in the 2023/2024 school year. The grant from the Bethlen Gábor Foundation was used to organise the drama group’s programmes. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support, which has enabled our talented students to flourish.

With the help of the grant, we were able to learn another play with the help of qualified directors. One of our main goals was to provide an educational programme for the students, where they could gain good concentration and self-confidence. But the main goal was the performance itself.

The programme was led by Katalin Fodor, group leader and founder, Levente Imecs-Magdó, director, and Elf Kocsis, director. The programme was implemented throughout the school year, and the results of the programme were followed up on our Facebook page.

Our first major activity was the participation in the Bessenyei István Bessenyei National Student Drama Festival from 22-24 March 2024. The Translated Horseshoe Drama Group presented in Satu Mare a stage version of Csaba Székely’s “Strangers”. At the national competition our team gave a fantastic performance and received a commendation. To our great pride, Gergő Réthy won the award for Best Supporting Actor. Special thanks go to actor Levente Imecs-Magdó, tour guide Katalin Fodor and accompanying teacher Ildikó Turzai.

Our second activity was the Children’s Day performance on 30 May 2024. The newly formed Kalamajka Drama Group presented Zsolt Láng’s “The Trunk Birds” with students from grades 5-6. The production of these talented children brought a lot of laughter to the audience and a huge congratulations to all. Special thanks go to the team’s lead teachers, Brigitta Fodor and Noémi Gudor, for their successful work.

Our third activity was the presentation of the latest performance of the Reverse Horseshoe, which took place on 13 June 2024 at 18:00 in the College’s Assembly Hall. The title of the performance was “The Loser of the Class”, based on the novel “Azoos” by Anikó Wáber, directed by Tünde Kocsis.

Our fourth activity was the “Eat or Drink?” theatre education programme, which aims to help participants become socially sensitive theatre lovers and theatre savvy, and to benefit from the self-awareness of the theatre performance and the education programme.

The student drama teams of the College’s Reverse Horseshoe and Kalamajka participated in the “Eat or Drink?” theatre education programme this academic year. They were guests of the Hungarian State Theatre of Cluj-Napoca on 15 May and 16 June. Both excursions were spiced up with a meaningful trip to Cluj. During the programme, the theatre’s professionals gave preparation and processing sessions to the students. The members of the two student drama groups were enriched with experiences and gained a deeper insight into the world of acting.

During the school year, the grant also helped us to purchase 25 Drama Circle T-shirts, which gave our members a uniform look and a sense of belonging.

The school year 2023/2024 was a very successful one for the Reverse Horseshoe and Kalamajka student drama groups, thanks to the support of the Communitas Foundation. Not only did the students live out their passion for theatre, but they also learned new skills that will be useful in other areas of their lives. The experiences and achievements of the programme prove that the drama club is not only an artistic but also an educational activity.

The Reverse Horseshoe and Kalamajka student drama groups continued their work successfully in the 2023/2024 school year thanks to the support of the Communitas Foundation, with numerous performances and programmes. Thank you for this opportunity, which has enabled our talented students to develop and grow.
