Stefanovszky Higher Education Scholarship

PROPOSAL

 

The leadership of the Bethlen Gábor Foundation in Aiud and the Scholarship Committee of the Bethlen Gábor College announce a competition for the Stefanovszky Higher Education Scholarship.

Founder: The award was established by the late Stefanovszky András, a businessman and company executive who lived in Budapest. Stefanovszky András completed his high school studies at one of the most prominent Hungarian diaspora institutions, the Burg Kastl Hungarian High School in Germany. He earned his university degree in management and economics through the European Business School program (Frankfurt, Paris, London). During his professional career, he lived and worked in England, Belgium, Germany, France, and Romania, serving, among other roles, as the Central European General Manager of Procter & Gamble Company (USA).

After his death, the purpose of establishing this award has been carried forward by his wife, Laborczy Szilvia, in memory of her husband.

Scholarship value: €1,800 per student – distributed over three academic years – €600/year. The award is presented annually, upon graduation, to a final-year student.

Objective: To support the university-level education of talented students who intend to pursue studies in institutions/programs taught in the Hungarian language.

Application conditions:
The scholarship recipient is a talented final-year high school student in financial need, who:

  • has completed grades XI and XII with outstanding results;
  • has achieved significant placements in competitions and contests;
  • has contributed significantly to the activities of the Bethlen Gábor Foundation’s talent workshops, such as folk dance, theater, Renaissance dance, choir, youth orchestra, school newspaper;
  • has participated in the scouting club.

Application evaluation criteria:

  • 25% – the grade point average (GPA) of grade XI and the GPA of the first four modules in grade XII;
  • 25% – results achieved in competitions;
  • 50% – participation in activities.

 

The results achieved in competitions will be scored according to the following table:

The evaluation of activities is as follows:

  • The activities in which the candidate participated during high school will be scored.
    Participation must be proven with a document signed by the teacher coordinating the activity, specifying the years of participation.
  • Scoring: 10 points/activity (2.5 points/year)

 

Eligible candidates: Students from grade XII A and XII B

Application deadline: May 9, 2025

 

Required documents:

  • The electronically completed form, available for download from the website.
  • Documents proving participation in competitions (certificates/diplomas).
  • A document signed by the teachers coordinating the activities to confirm participation (included in the form).
  • Documents proving academic performance:
    • A signed copy of the gradebook to confirm the grade point average (GPA) for grade XI;
    • For grade XII, a certificate from the homeroom teacher confirming the GPA for the first four modules.
  • An official certificate, stamped and signed by the employer(s) of the parents/guardians, detailing the net income for the last three months (January, February, March), broken down by month.
  • A declaration signed by the student confirming their intent to pursue higher education at an institution/program taught in Hungarian (included in the form).
  • Copies of the ID cards of the parents/guardians and siblings.

Applications and documents can be submitted in person at the foundation’s office.
